How to Throw a Green Wedding?
Your wedding is no doubt the best day of your life. But there is a lot of wastage of energy and goods that harms the environment in so many ways. Think of all the food that is wasted, the flowers that were plucked to decorate your event for one day or the massive garbage.
All these things are not good for our environment. You can still have an amazing wedding with all sorts of events and decoration but in an eco-friendly way.
Here are some of the ways you can have a green wedding.
Send eco-friendly Invites
Do research on the internet to find companies that sell eco-friendly invites. There are companies that make impressive invites using recycled papers. Since we are living in a time where everything is done online, why not send the wedding invites online as well. Send all your details and they will custom create the invites for you.
The same thing applies for photos as well.
Avoid Plastic and Paper Utensils and Dishes
The biggest mistake that a lot of couples make is that instead of using reusable utensils, they go for the one that is made of either paper or plastic. The main reason is that it is cheap plus you don’t need to worry about washing them.
You can just through them away but these things end up harming the environment greatly. Try to order compostable, sustainable, or reusable dish ware and paper goods from your catering company. But don’t cut back completely on the regular utensils because some guests may get upset.
Get Yourself a Second-hand or Rent one!
Wedding dresses can cost you hundreds and thousands of dollars. All of this is a waste of resources which you cannot have if you are going for a green wedding. Now the solution is either renting a wedding dress or buying a second-hand dress. The wedding dresses are normally styled in such a way that you cannot wear it again.
There are plenty of companies from where you can rent your wedding gown. The dress is only going to be worn for one day. There is no point in purchasing such an expensive dress. Another excellent option is purchasing a second-hand wedding dress. You will give life to a pre-loved wedding dress.
Reuse your Décor Items
Decoration shouldn’t be limited to only one event. There are plenty of wedding events and buying decoration for them separately is a huge waste of resources. Reuse the décor items as much as possible. You will be saving a lot of money this way and plus, you will be doing your planet a big favor.
The wedding bouquets that you will get can be used to decorate your food station or the cake table. This is where you will get creative. Try to find a second use for all the décor items that you purchased.
Do not use Balloons or flying lanterns
Flying lanterns on the night of your wedding may look quite romantic but it is not good for our environment. These days most of the wedding decoration has balloons in it. And while they look good, you should keep it in mind that they are not bio-degradable.
So, all the balloons that you are using will be staying in the environment for a very long time. Another threat is that some animal can swallow the balloon and can die or the balloon can make its way to the ocean and harm aquatic life as well. So try to skip the balloons and flying lanterns if you are going for a green wedding.
