Get to Know Wedding Officiant Chris Wade: An Exclusive Interview!
The person who marries you has a big job. Not only must they be qualified—or ordained—they should be someone you and your partner feel comfortable with who can make your ceremony special and keep your wedding guests engaged. To help you find the perfect person, we rounded up everything with Chris Wade, a famous wedding officiant, to know about wedding officiants.
Q&A with Him
1. What common mistakes do you see couples making?
Hiring family or friends, who have never spoken in front of a crowd, officiate their wedding.
2. What’s the best tip you have for a couple planning a wedding?
Keep it simple. Sometimes less is more.
3. What don’t couples know about your business that they need to know?
Just because someone is Ordained, doesn’t mean they are a great speechwriter. Review and sign off on your wedding ceremony speech, before the big day.
4. What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask?
Ask for reviews, videos and ask how long their Officiant has been performing services. Also, just feel comfortable with that person.
5. What your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
You don’t have to please anyone else, but yourselves. It’s your wedding.
6. What’s the most unusual wedding you ever did?
I’ve done a lot of different themes, married people in a QT parking lot, on horseback, Star Trek, and even one where goats roamed around the whole time. Nothing is really unusual to me.
However, I had one. A mother of the bride wore her wedding dress from 30 years ago. The guests were definitely perplexed, but she acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary.
7. What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked, and why?
I performed one on a lakefront and they had the biggest fireworks display that I’ve ever witnessed. Also, they had a reception first and the ceremony service the last hour of the wedding. Different, but beautiful, fun, and again the fireworks.
