Q&A with Brittany Sederburg
Today, we had the pleasure of interviewing wedding photographer Brittany Sederburg from Sederburg Photography. She answered a few questions about her experience with photography and how simple it is to book your wedding with one of Missouri’s most reputable wedding photographers!
Brittany is very creative in her approach to capturing those magical shots that will serve as a lasting memory for happy couples. She is an expert in capturing milestone moments in a fun and creative environment with a mix of dark and moody, rich color shots. Here’s our interview with Brittany:
1. What common mistakes do you see couples making?
A common mistake I see couples making often is trying to plan many things in one day. When clients try to plan so many events in
such a short time on their wedding day, they end up stressed, behind schedule, and not able to really enjoy their wedding day.
Being realistic in your schedule and the time that it will take to accomplish said events will make the day 100% better. Nobody wants to be rushed the entire day from this to that. Give yourself time to sit back and enjoy the day that you’ve spent months planning and
dreaming about.
2. What’s the best tip you have for a couple planning a wedding?
The best tip I have for couples is to ask all the questions. No question is stupid. Ask all your vendors the ‘what ifs’ & the backup plans.
Ask vendors their opinions if you are unsure or stuck on something because most vendors have worked many weddings and will have
some insight that may help.
3. What don’t couples know about your business that they need to know?
I strive to make all my clients feel comfortable and like friends. I am willing to help in whatever way that doesn’t interfere with shooting
to make their day the best it can be Before, during, and after the wedding. I feel like couples need to be comfortable with their
photographer as they will be with them most of the day.
I love having a thorough consultation prior to booking to get to know my clients, answer any questions they have, and learn their expectations. During the consultation, I make sure we are a
good fit, personality-wise, and editing-wise. As I said most of the day I am with either the bride or the groom if it isn’t a good fit they
won’t be comfortable during their photos and it will show.
4. What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask?
When hiring a photographer there are so many questions to ask-
-What gear are you shooting with? You may not know much about the gear but they do and they can explain what they have that will
best capture your day.
-Are you insured and licensed? Having someone licensed and insured will protect you on top of the contract should anything happen.
It also shows that your photographer takes their business seriously.
-What would happen in case of an emergency on the photographer’s end? Unfortunately, unexpected things happen, we hope and
pray they won’t, however on the chance that they do your photographer should have a clear outline or options of what to do.
-Have you shot at the venue prior or a similar venue? Being familiar with venues or styles of venues will help with your gallery. Barns
for instance, typically give off very warm tones, photographers need to be able to handle those.
-Can I see a full wedding gallery? It’s very easy to only post the best images from galleries on social media, not saying the entire
gallery isn’t beautiful. But just like when you take 100 similar pictures just to go through and pick the best 3 to post, so do
photographers. Look at full galleries, check out the editing style, and decide if it’s what you want.
5. What is your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
The best advice I have is to do what makes YOU happy. It is YOUR day. It’s not about making everyone else happy but making sure
you are happy and you enjoy your day. I love to tell couples to remember to schedule maybe 5 minutes to be alone together. Give
yourselves time to celebrate just the two of you that you’re married.
6. What’s the most unusual wedding you ever did?
I have to say that most of my weddings have been pretty normal. Nothing too crazy to talk about. I am very fortunate that my past
wedding clients and current wedding clients have been pretty amazing.
7. What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked, and why?
One wedding that sticks out to me most often is one I did for some amazing clients turned friends. For a while, I lived in Alaska, and upon
returning to the Missouri area I had to build a whole new client list. This couple won a giveaway I had. I actually knew the groom from
my very small town. You could tell they were IN LOVE. Just all around perfect for each other.
During their wedding, it was nothing but smiles and excitement. Literal jumping for joy that may have broken a bed during bridal party robe photos. This couple strived to make the other smile. Since then I have been fortunate enough to photograph so many other milestones for them, and even the bride’s sister’s wedding which was just as sweet.
