The 7 top lessons to learn as you plan your wedding for the first time – blkPhotography

If you’re reading this article because you’re getting married soon, then we want to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to you! On the other hand, if you’re reading this because you are helping plan the wedding of a family or friend, then we also want to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to you too for lending a helping hand. At this point, you probably already know that planning a wedding is no small task. In this article, Brittany at blkPhotography shares some insight from her experience working with wedding couples by answering the following top 7 wedding planning questions.

  1. What common mistakes do you see couples making?

I see couples make the mistake of quickly booking a vendor because of a “good deal”. It is very important to ensure you get the quality and experience you are looking for in a wedding vendor. Remember, this is a big day!

  1. What’s the best tip you have for a couple planning a wedding?

Research your vendors thoroughly! Make sure to get quality vendors who will help you through the process, have great communication and who are talented and educated in their craft!

  1. What don’t couples know about your business that they need to know?

I’m more than just a wedding photographer. My clients become friends, I get to know them on a more personal level and I assist them on finding the perfect vendors for their wedding. On the day of, I’m not just photographing their wedding, I’m calming their nerves, fixing problems before they know about it, making sure they stay hydrated, making sure we stay on track with the timeline etc. The blkPhotography experience is so much more on top of receiving beautiful, memorable photographs of your wedding day.

  1. What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask?

Make sure to be asking about experience. I’ve been in the industry for 11 years now and I think it’s so important to have vendors who are experienced in weddings and their own craft. I can almost pinpoint when a problem is going to happen before it actually does because I’ve photographed SO many weddings! So in that instance, I can jump in and help solve that problem quickly without any issue and without worrying my bride! Experience also helps things go smoother on the day in general!

  1. What your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! I know everyone says this, but it’s true! I’ve seen brides who are just worried about so many small things on their wedding day, that they don’t get the full experience. Book a vendor team that you trust to take care of everything for you. This allows you to fully embrace being in the moment on your wedding day! Take in the little moments and all the love that is surrounding you on your Best Day Yet!

  1. What’s the most unusual wedding you ever did?

I wouldn’t say I’ve had anything too “unusual”. However, from 11 years being in business, I’ve experienced weddings in a variety of cultures and I find it very interesting till this day! I love all the different traditions that are practiced on wedding days in different cultures! Henna painting, traditional drum entrances, all different kinds of commitment ceremonies, bride reveals with the entire family and so much more!

  1. What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked, and why?

Oh goodness, they are all so memorable to me in so many ways! Each wedding is unique, but I think what sticks with me the most are the people I have the honor of working with. My blkBrides and Grooms are out of this world amazing! I have so many sweet memories with all of them and I’m so thankful when I get to continue photographing their legacies as their families grow!
