The hardest part of planning a wedding is the fact that you’ve probably never done it before. Even the simplest wedding requires a lot of planning, so it makes sense to enlist the help of a professional. A lot of people think of wedding planning as a dream job. After all, you’re basically putting on one big party, no? But behind the scenes, it’s a lot more than just confetti and tulle. On a basic level, event directors are there to coordinate and help you organize your big day, but their responsibilities can massively vary. Ultimately, hiring a event director should be the biggest gift you give yourself.  Not only does an event director provide an enjoyable and stress-free planning process, but they also provide you with a piece of mind. What I want every bride and groom to take away is this. We know firsthand how overwhelming the whole process can be! So we sat down for an interview with an event director, Sloane Simmons to get some help.

What common mistakes do you see couples making?

Not asking enough questions – we really don’t mind! We fully recognize that we are industry professionals and that you may be doing this for the first time. If you have a question, ask it, we are truly here to help. I promise we have heard it all before and you aren’t the first to ask. We want you to make a well-informed decision, so let us give you all the answers.

What’s the best tip you have for a couple planning a wedding?

Don’t forget the reason for all of this! Wedding planning can get stressful and overwhelming, and maybe even a bit tense at times, but ground yourself in the fact that at the end of it, you will be officially married to your perfect match! Don’t sweat the small stuff, your day will be amazing because you are amazing.

What don’t couples know about your business that they need to know?

We have an on-site wedding coordinator to handle all your day-of needs. This means there is no need from you, your mom, your sisters, your aunts, etc. to arrive for set-up before the event begins. We want you, and all of your loved ones, to walk into a beautiful and perfectly set space without any added stress on the day-of!

What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask?

Comparing wedding packages from place to place is like comparing apples to oranges – no one sets their packages up the same! We are very lucky to have such straightforward packages that are easy to read, but you may have a different experience elsewhere, so it is always important to ask what is included and what is not. What is an additional cost and what is not? And what additional charges can you expect outside of what is included? Those are good starting points to get a realistic bottom line number that you can then be used to compare quotes.

What is your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?

Always be up front with wedding vendors about what is truly important to you! If we don’t know what matters to you the most, we can’t accurately match you with what we offer that hits those needs. We will not take offense to anything that doesn’t matter to you either! Help us help you get exactly what you want

What’s the most unusual wedding you’ve ever had?

No wedding is unusual to us! We want your day to reflect you as a couple so whatever that means, we are on board with no judgment!

What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked, and why?

One of our Mothers of the Bride was a part owner of a local firework display company so they really ended the night with a bang! I believe this was the largest firework show they have done in St. Louis. The photos are to die for!

Conclusion:

Remember that your wedding day is about the love and unity the two of you share. At the end of the day, it’s not about the money, logistics, and the decision-making process.  After all, that’s what a planner is for.  Allow yourself to be a guest at your own party!
