Making Your Wedding Day Memorable: Insights from Professional Wedding Officiant Diana Floyd

Planning a wedding is no small feat, and having the right support can make all the difference in creating a meaningful, stress-free celebration. We spoke with Diana Floyd, the heart and soul behind Love Wins Wedding Officiant, to learn about her best tips for couples, common wedding planning pitfalls, and some of the unique and memorable ceremonies she’s had the honor to officiate. Here’s her invaluable advice to help make your wedding day everything you dream it to be. What common mistakes do you see couples making when planning a wedding? “I see a lot of brides trying to do it all, all by themselves. To plan a wedding is an enormous undertaking, and as the bride (or groom), delegation of jobs is your best friend. Many family and friends would LOVE to help, so ask them. I always tell my couples to ‘buy’ time to relax, breathe, and just ‘be.’ Otherwise, you may arrive at your wedding so stressed and exhausted that you miss out on the joy of your own big day.” What’s the best tip you have for a couple planning a wedding when hiring an officiant? “Do you feel a connection with your officiant? Do you feel heard? Do you like your potential officiant? If you answer yes to these questions, hire that officiant right then! If you don’t vibe with your officiant, the experience can feel more like a chore instead of a fantastic working relationship.” What don’t couples know about your business that they need to know? “I work with people from all walks of life and backgrounds. If you want to include a special element unique to your heritage or culture, I am here for it. I educate myself if needed to ensure the ceremony is exactly what you envision. I’m also cleared to perform ceremonies in prisons and am always open to questions or special ideas from couples. On your wedding day, I arrive early to greet the couple and meet with the DJ, photographer, and videographer to finalize details for a seamless ceremony.” What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask? •What are your credentials?
•What services do you include?
•Are there hidden fees I should know about?
•How far are you willing to travel?
•Will you be reading from notes or an iPad?
•What will you be wearing?
•Are you comfortable using pronouns like they/them?
•Do you have experience working with people who have disabilities, such as those on the Autism Spectrum? What’s the biggest piece of advice you can give to couples planning a wedding? “Don’t leave hiring your officiant until the last moment. Our schedules fill up faster than you might think—I’m already booking two years out! Also, hire an officiant who is lively and fun, and who celebrates your day along with you. This is a celebration, after all.” What’s the most unusual wedding you ever officiated? “A couple once asked me to officiate their ceremony aboard a riverboat. Their family thought it was just a cruise, but it turned into a surprise elopement!” What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked, and why? “One wedding I’ll never forget took place during the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. The bride rode a black stallion to the altar, and her groom took the reins and helped her dismount. They planted a tree using soil from each of their families’ homesteads in Wisconsin. I pronounced them married at the apex of totality, bringing the sun, moon, and couple into perfect alignment. It was a magical experience, and I feel honored to have been part of it. Being included in a couple’s big day is always an honor.” Find Out More About Love Wins Wedding Officiant Whether you envision a traditional ceremony, a culturally infused celebration, or something completely unique, Diana Floyd from Love Wins Wedding Officiant brings dedication, experience, and joy to each wedding.
