They cut costs in areas that matter and spend too much money on things that do not. Example: Wedding Professionals such as photographers, videographers, and DJs are more critical than favors and over-the-top decorations.

What’s the best tip you have for a couple planning a wedding?

Hire an event planner or consultant. So many couples do not hire a professional because they want to “save money”. I save my couples more money than they spend on me with my wedding management and planner collections. They also stress themselves out too much when they do not have someone outside their family and friends to run the day.

What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask?

Brides should ask for detailed contracts and service agreements when hiring any wedding professional. What is included with the service, and what do most brides have to add on or get outside of what is included? Does the wedding professional have liability insurance? What time does the professional wedding need to arrive to be ready by the start time? Does the wedding professional have a website and testimonials/reviews?

What is your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?

Brides need first to ask themselves how much time and energy they want to invest throughout the planning process and what is their realistic budget. They need to be honest with themselves from the beginning. I also encourage couples to have an open mind and take advice from the professionals who do this every weekend.

What’s the most unusual wedding you ever did?

There have been several. The one that comes to mind would be an over-the-top field wedding. The theme was luxury, elegant, and black tie, but the setting was in the middle of a field. Everything had to be brought in from several hours away, and no other wedding professionals were hired other than myself at the last minute. It was very unusual and stressful.

What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked on, and why?

The most memorable weddings are the ones where couples hire fantastic wedding professionals who work great together, add personal touches throughout, and allow my team and me to decorate and make their visions come to life. When couples take advice that will enable them to take on unnecessary stresses, everyone is happy at the night’s end.
