Vendor Spotlight: Josh & Lindsey Photo – A St. Louis Wedding Photography Team That Leads With Heart

When you’re planning a wedding in St. Louis, the vendors you bring onto your team shape the entire experience — not just the final product. In our ongoing Vendor Highlight series, we sit down with the wedding pros we love working with and ask the questions engaged couples should be asking before they book.
This week we’re excited to feature Josh and Lindsey Mullins of Josh & Lindsey Photo — a husband-and-wife St. Louis wedding photography team whose warmth behind the camera is as memorable as the images they create. We recently worked a wedding together and loved their energy, so we asked them to share their best advice for couples currently planning their big day.
What common mistakes do you see couples making when planning a wedding?
One of the biggest mistakes couples make when planning a wedding is trying to do everything at once — and usually under pressure from everyone else’s opinions. It’s easy to get caught up in what Pinterest says your wedding should look like or what family expects, but the best weddings are the ones that actually feel like you.
Another common issue is underestimating the timeline. Weddings move fast, and without a well-thought-out schedule, things can quickly feel rushed or chaotic. Not leaving enough buffer time — especially for getting ready, travel, and portraits — can create unnecessary stress. And trust us, stress is not something you want showing up in your photos.
What’s the best tip you have for couples hiring a wedding photographer?
One of the best tips we can give couples when hiring a photographer (same goes for the DJ) is this: don’t just hire for the product — hire for the experience.
You’re not just booking someone to show up and deliver photos. You’re inviting them into one of the most emotional, fast-paced, and meaningful days of your life. The right photographer should feel like someone you actually want around all day — someone who can keep things relaxed, help you feel comfortable in front of the camera, and roll with whatever the day throws at you. Pay attention to how they communicate, how they make you feel during your first interaction, and whether their personality matches your vibe.
What don’t couples know about your business that they need to know?
Most couples don’t realize how much of their experience — and their photos — comes down to trust, not just talent. Yes, we know how to use a camera, find great light, and capture the big moments. But what really makes a difference is how comfortable we make you feel in front of us and the camera.
What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask?
Most couples ask about pricing and availability — but the real magic is in the questions they don’t think to ask. Things like:
- How do you handle unpredictable moments or bad weather?
- What happens if the timeline runs late?
- How do you help us feel comfortable in front of the camera?
- What’s your backup plan for gear, weather, or emergencies?
- How do you read a room when emotions are running high?
- What can we do to help you get the best photos?
The right photographer won’t just show up — they’ll guide, adapt, and help your day feel effortless from start to finish.
What is your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
Don’t lose your day trying to impress people who won’t remember the details anyway. Plan a wedding that actually feels like you. If that means a backyard celebration, a packed dance floor, or sneaking away for sunset photos — do it. Prioritize what matters most.
Also, build in breathing room. The best photos (and memories) happen when you’re relaxed, present, and not rushing from one thing to the next.
What’s the most unusual wedding you’ve ever photographed?
We wouldn’t call it the most unusual, but it was definitely unique — a Hobbit-esque wedding in a field with wooden pews, and the bride’s bouquet had a sword handle. For the night reception they had a white tent and string lights… and yes, one of the guests was barefoot. We have the photo to prove it.
What was the most memorable wedding you’ve ever worked, and why?
The most memorable wedding we ever photographed was probably a wedding at the Boo Cat Club. The bride had a lot of friends from college in her bridal party and in the guest list as well… let’s just say the dance floor was insane. Tons of people having the time of their lives, singing and dancing to their heart’s content. Pretty wild!
